Safety Manager

The safety manager will be responsible for reiterating safety protocols and regulations in the workplace to prevent potential hazards and operational delays. Responsible for facilitating training and programs for the employees and informing them of any communications related to their safety and wellbeing. Required to submit incident reports and provide recommendations to minimize risks. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Managing the strategic preparation of safety assessment programs.
  • Provides safety leadership and technical expertise in the areas of assurance and systems review, in accordance with applicable regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Formalize assessment results and follow through to ensure all items are completed closed.
  • Ensure the allocation of work is prioritized according to the audit assessment program.
  • Complete audits of JSAs and safety inspections while coaching and correcting if applicable.
  • Train new hires in the safety section of the onboarding process. 
  • Provide advice and guidance to team members and personnel in the application of sound safety practices. 
  • Preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly status reports regarding findings pertaining to safety. 
  • Identify, investigate, and report on areas of concern where management controls appear inadequate.
  • Perform work to provide a timely and effective process for completing assessments and the corrective action close out process for assessment findings.
  • Identify trends and issues arising from assessments and reported incidents and make recommendations to management and where necessary, initiate appropriate actions to improve performance.
  • The role can and/or may include other duties as directed by management.
  • Minimum 2 years previous experience as a safety professional.
  • Previous experience working in refineries, chemical plants, industrial environments, manufacturing facilities, or business providing services in those environments.
  • Experience in OSHA Voluntary Protections and regulations.
  • Ability to prioritize assigned tasks, monitor the workflows and identify where improvements could be made to optimize the work across the safety and operations team.
  • Strong technical skills in assessments and investigations with the ability to apply critical analysis, problem solving and reporting skills to compliance and assurance reporting.
  • Thorough understanding of Health & Safety Standards, Legislation, & Risk Management policies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Professional (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Experience in leading/directing a team.

Will be in an oil refinery environment.

  • 2 Years experience in safety management role
  • Certification: NCCER Construction Site Safety Technician (CSST)
  • OSHA 501 or OSHA 510 is a plus
